Last Post of 2008

Well...
What a happy surprise. I got a 'Happy New Year' e-mail from Lt. Paul Honeman. Paul is the official spokesman for Anchorage Police Department, he's ALWAYS on the news. He is also the driving force behind the Anchorage Citizen's Police Academy. He is the nicest man, he's amazingly connected to real life and a great teacher. I have nothing but the greatest admiration for Paul.
His e-mail says he is running for mayor. I was thrilled to hear it.
My heart actually soars when I talk to or see Paul. He has the 'good guy' aura so rare today.
Anyhow, good luck, Paul. You deserve to be mayor... and Anchorage could sure use your help.
He gave me the contact number for some local Citizen's Police Academy alumni, and I went ahead and wrote to them. Hope I can get involved in that ... it would be nice.
I went to Burger King for my last dinner of '08. And was reminded of how old my truck is. Could barely hear the chick on the speaker due to the loud truck , hard as HELL to roll the window down so I left it down... with the heat blowing high.
They asked me to drive up and pull over to wait for my burger. (I got the mushroom swissburger or whatever, steakhouse burger thingy)... it took a while. I left the window down. That turned out to be ok because they had an interview with one of the members of the Clash.. in a new band.. I wrote it down, the name. It's out in the car.
They played "London Calling"... (this is on NPR mind you)... then there was an interview with R.E.M.
And they played a snippet of older REM and then a new song from the new album (song is "HOUSTON"... it's about Katrina).
The guy delivered my burger and I was having this driveway moment at Burger King.. wishing I was anywhere else.
So came home, ate that crap, got online, then called K. from Craigslist .. so far we've talked twice. She seems pretty smart... smarter than I am, that's fine.
She seems nice enough. Used to be a therapist. She's taking care of her dad who has Alzhemiers.
Oh and earlier, after I'd just gotten done with my shower, G. called and asked if I wanted to go see DOUBT. I ran over there and we did see it.
I loved it. I described it to K. as "One long audition tape for Meryl Streep."
Don't go see Doubt if you are not a rabid Streep fan.
it was a pleasant evening... a movie with a friend and a phone conversation with a hopeful future friend.
Yay! The promise of new friends in the new year.
Now watching Bones.. sort of. Just glancing at it from time to time...
New Year's Resolutions:
1) Eat right
2) Drink more water
3) ride the bike at least every other day
4) make more friends.
ok..let's see how I do.
Happy New Year, self.
