I did not get as much sleep as I needed. This is because of a heated discussion between my sister and I before I 'went to bed' (or as I say, "went to couch".)
Unable to sleep I surfed the web and then lay there with my head spinning. But eventually I just fell asleep. I was dragging at work this morning. Very foul tempered.
The argument was over the tv (amongst other things)... my sister likes the TV on all the time. And she likes it on in every room on the same channel, loud enough to hear over what she is doing, be it ironing or vacuuming. This makes it impossible to escape the television in any abode my sister lives in, be it house, apartment or mobile home.
I knew this, but had forgotten how pervasive that tv thing is. I mean, the moment she wakes up, until way past when she is snoring in bed. The tv is on.
So I get to work and they have turned up one of the televisions, and tuned it to a movie channel. OH NO, I was not having any of that. First off, the waitresses (servers, whatever) are on thin ice lately, as we've been told by the owner to keep an eye on them: they sit and read the paper when ever there is not a customer. The whole paper.
The cook and I are almost always busy and rarely sit down. The servers spend a lot of time sitting down reading the paper: having the tv on a movie channel and the sound up: that is stepping over the line from questionable to downright slacker.
So I just had to make sure that tv got turned down. And it did.
I was so tired all day ... still am. We got busy, real busy. Steve had cut up two large large roasts for beef tips (the special today)... and we sold out. People were coming in right up until closing. I didn't get out of there until three.
And then I came home and took a shower then took the dogs to the park... and then... I went to the pool.
Now that sounds pretty simple to your average joe, but to me, it was a huge deal.
First off, I wear men's swim trunks (I haven't bought a swim suit in ... ever) and a women's bikini top I got at Salvation Army. So, I look odd... then there is the skin issue, my legs are still splotchy looking from the drinking...
I'm white as paper... to hell with it though. It was HOT today. I went to the pool with a towel and a book and a bottle of water and I got INTO the pool and I played in the water...
And oh, did it feel good. I can't believe I've waited, put it off, when it was so hot... so hot..
well I gotta tell ya, once I got in the pool it was hard to get me out. Just like a kid. Just playing and splashing and feeling really good in there. Then I'd go lay out in the sun and read "A Million Little Pieces" (my sponsor gave it to me to read).
And that was such an amazing amazing hour and a half out there reading and playing in the pool. Oh, it felt great.
My sister and I had a talk when she came home and that seemed to work out ok... I told her I didn't think I should live with her, that I should live with someone in AA or Al-anon or something 12 step. Someone who reads and doesn't watch tv much. Someone who likes to go out and do stuff.
She seemed to understand, the talk went ok, and suddenly we were both in better spirits. I called my sponsor and that was a good talk.
All in all it was a good day because I felt like I was learning something about myself and also I was taking care of business.
Debrah says we can't go canoing this weekend but we are having a bbq tomorrow (fourth of July)... and we were going to clean the canoes, perhaps we still will just to have them ready.
Perhaps we can take the canoes to Ditto Landing... no, it's going to be packed there with Fourth of July festivities...
I just can't believe how relaxing and wonderful the pool was. I can't imagine living here without a pool. Oh, how delightful the feeling of cool cool water on the hot hot skin.

Hey Zed,
I wasn't sure you were gonna reply. The Special Olympics T-shirt was just part of the package. I have been involved with Special O. for quite a while because of my daughter's special needs.
Profile surfing works this way:
If you go to your own profile and click on any one of the words (for example - Little Big Man )It will generate a list of other people that have Little Big Man listed on their profile. Then you can check out their blog.
You had so many things in your list that matched mine that I checked out your blog. Then I saw a photo of you with the Special Olympics T-shirt and that sealed it. I had to leave a comment.
Sounds like you had a great time at the pool in your personalized swimming attire. It's been in the 100's and high 90's here fyyqlsgivor about 2 weeks or more. I could use a good swim.

Ok, I just went back to see if there was any response to my comment and Isaw that i used the word "fyqlsgivor". Somehow the word verification word got stuck in the middle of the word "for". I have not slipped in a hitherto unknown language. Just thought I'd clear that up.

LOL, You funny guy. I did wonder about that.
When it gets in the nineties here, I often cuss a lot, and it looks a lot like 'fyyqlsgivor'.
I read some of your blog, you seem like a nice guy, way too nice to be my brother, lol.
My family put the 'fun' in dysfunctional. NOT.
Keep on truckin'.
