...won't be just any night...tonight there will be no morning star...
(Lyrics to West Side Story's 'Tonight')
Tonight I pick up my one year chip at my home group. It isn't my first year chip but hopefully, Lord willing and the crick don't rise, it will be my last.
I'm pretty excited because Lucy Lawless joined twitter and mentioned me in a tweet. Now that is tres awesome. I was just remembering how when I was in Flagstaff, for a whole winter, snowed in, no car... just me and my dog CRASH..
Nothing to do all night but drink, and nothing to look forward to but watching Xena reruns on the little black and white tv. Wow, it was a desolate time. I had not yet discovered the internet, unfortunately, or I might have been slightly less horribly lonely.
At any rate, I had a Xena rerun in the afternoon to get me through to watching Conan before passing out. Lucy Lawless and Conan O'brien, I salute you. You were my only friends for a whole horrible Flagstaff winter.
****EDIT****
So I watched Harold and Kumar escape from Guantanamo before going down to the meeting. It's pretty funny, in that ribald sort of way that is popular now. I went down to the meeting hall and it was packed. It was the group's 35th anniversary as well as birthday night so ...it was HOT in there, you betcha.
B. introduced me to a hot dyke. Hot dyke sat directly across from me so that I had an extra bit of irritation during the meeting other than trying to keep my eyes open. It was a nice night. I made a speech when I picked up my token. I got a lot of hugs. I was glad to get the fuck out of there and into the fresh air. Too many bodies in that nasty little building. At any rate, the year chip is mine and here's to a long frustrating but productive year. I paid off a lot of debts, paid off my credit cards. I got into Voc Rehab and am going to school in the fall. I kept a job a whole year. I gained a lot of weight though. I'd like to lose that. I know how. I have to start eating better. It's not a big deal. I cut myself some slack since I work so hard and I quit smoking. Now is the time to go ahead and get back in shape. I think I'll ask my roommate if her dog walks on a leash, then I can walk the neighborhood after the sun goes down and not be afraid for my life.
